Nowadays, yoga is much more than just a way to stay fit, improve mobility, or simply unwind. It’s a path to self-discovery, living in the moment, and facing the challenges life brings. If you’re on Gran Canaria and want a personalized yoga session tailored to you – whether on the beach or wherever feels best – then you’re in the right place!
My own yoga journey started a long time ago. My mom once took me to a yoga class when I was very young. It was Vinyasa Yoga, a dynamic style that synchronizes breath and movement, and I loved it immediately. After that came a long pause: the teacher moved away, I started university, traveled a lot …
After the pandemic, my mom got me back into yoga. This time it was Hatha (a traditional style that focuses on the balance between body and mind through breathing exercises, postures, and meditation) and Yin (a slow, meditative style that uses long-held, passive stretches to target deep tissues like fascia, promoting flexibility and relaxation). This was with Konrad. I want to take a moment to thank Konrad for the wonderful classes I’ve been able to attend, and still can whenever I visit Germany.
The decision to start with my Yoga teacher training on Gran Canaria
At that time, my life was very hectic. I was traveling a lot, constantly on the go, my main sport was HIIT boxing (three times a week), and my personal life was full of activity. Eventually, my irritable bowel kicked in, and like 90% of people, I reached a point where I realized I needed to take a break. It didn’t take long for me to know that what I needed was yoga.
So I decided to do the 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training with Yoga Alliance. This training is usually completed over three weeks, but I was lucky to find a yoga school that offered an alternative: one weekend per month over nine months. That turned out to be the perfect option for me, as those nine months were transformative and made a huge difference. And practicing yoga in the Canary Islands isn’t too bad either!
If someone had told me X years ago that I would one day study yoga on Gran Canaria, I probably would have just smiled.
I successfully completed my training, so if you feel like having a yoga session, just get in touch with me. It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or advanced, young or old, fit or not, or have any movement limitations – yoga can be adapted for everyone.
You can choose whether you want to practice on the beach, indoors, or anywhere in nature. Feel free to follow or message me on Instagram at yoga.ruxi, where I share interesting things about yoga as well as my own progress. A yoga session usually lasts about 60 minutes, including a final relaxation. I can also lend you a yoga mat if needed.
Námaste.
